Trip consisting of 14 days

These motorbike trips are especially compiled for travel with off the road motorbikes. It can be done alone in the company of a guide or in a group.
As always the amount of experience of the travellers will be taken in consideration.

To undertake this trip, weather conditions must comply. To ascent Sanipass into Lesotho we will need clear weather. If weather doesn’t allow then this proposed weekly itinerary will be changed.

 

We will receive your flight number and arrival time before your departure out of your country.

 


Day 1



Arrival at Johannesburg International Airport and transport to Wildebeest Campsite in Harrismith.
This trip will take several hours with a rest stop scheduled in between.
Depending on time of arrival in Harrismith, you will then be outfitted with protective clothing and gear and test the motorbike.


Day 2
A trip of approximately 250 km is planned. You will travel through the Golden Gate Nature Reserve to Clarens.
Clarens is a rustic town in the mountains, best described as an artistic retreat. There is an opportunity for lunch before you return via Golden Gate to Wildebeest camp in Harrismith. This is a winding route that will give you time to adjust to road conditions and regulations in South Africa.

Day 3
After breakfast you will undertake a 200 km on-off road trip. We will visit Sterkfontein dam with swimming and boating facilities.
Depending on the weather we will have an overnight stay at Sterkfontein or return to Harrismith.
On your return trip a visit to a Basoto cultural village is scheduled.

Day 4
Take your time to rest. This day will be spended accordingly to your wishes. Fine tuning the motorbike?

Day 5
A trip of 250 km on gravel roads will take you via de Beerspass and Collingspass to Mount Nelson.
At Mount Nelson, named after Nelson Mandela; we will sleep in rooftents at the bushcamp. In the surrounding area you will be able to admire bushmansings,-
Done by the earlier inhabitants of this area.

Day 6
It is your choice. Either you take up the challenge and conquer Mount Nelson (total of 5 hours needed) or you can take an off the road route of 300 km to Normandiespass.
The last is a steep mountain pass, which allow magnificent scenery.
We will spend another night in the bushcamp.

Day 7
We start our travels to visit the awesome Drakensberg mountain escarpment. We leave Mount Nelson to drive 300 km to Himeville, a small town adjacent to the Central Drakensberg. In Himeville we will erect our base camp, from where we will leave for Lesotho to return after 2 days.

Day 8
We leave Himeville for Sanipass, Drakensberg. This mountain pass is a sheer steep gravel track into Lesotho, at an altitude of 3000 meters. Sanipass is the highest gravel mountain pass in Africa.
Lesotho is a mountainous kingdom that is surrounded by South Africa.
Then on to Katsedam, which was build as part of the Lesotho Highlands Water Development Program. We will stay overnight at the lodge with a magnificent view of the dam.

Day 9
A day consisting out of 270 km off the road and endure travel back to Himeville. Here we will stay
the night at the base camp, inside the Himeville Nature Reserve.

Day 10
We take the highway to Ballito, a 200 km trip. Ballito is situated at the North coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal province. We will stay at a campsite in subtropical surroundings.

Day 11
We spend the day in Durban. You can visit local artists, walk the boulevard, watch the surfers, visit the metropolitan city centre or relax on the beach.
At the end of the day we leave again for Ballito, a 40 km drive, to stay at the campsite.

Day 12
We leave Ballito for Harrismith, a 340 km drive on secondary roads. On the way we stop at Howick, visit the Howick Falls, have a coffee break and shop for souvenirs.

Day 13
You leave from Wildebeest campsite to undertake the railroad-route. This gravel route will take us to Van Reenenspass and the viewpoint, WindyCorner.
You can have a look at the smallest church in the world before returning to Harrismith.

Day 14
Leave Harrismith for Johannesburg International Airport. Bon Voyage.
