Golden Gate National Park This unique park was established in 1963 to protect the spectacular sandstone highlands unsurpassed in their variety of rock shapes and colour. A great number of rare and unusual flowers grow here like the arum lily, watsonias, fire lilies and red-hot pokers. And there is a magnificent and colourful variety of game animals and birdlife. Great caves and rock shelters are set in a landscape filled with spectacular colours and unusual rocks. The mountain air is crisp and fresh, and the atmosphere tranquil and remote.
